Caroline's Idol Recap

by Caroline, age 9

Me and my mommy went to the American Idol Concert in Lexington, KY last night. We had really good seats on the side of the stage where the idols could walk out close to us and grab people’s hands and stuff. (We also went to see Chris Daughtry and the Idols in 2006.) When we first walked into Rupp Arena, we went to the souvenir stand. There, I got a hot pink shirt that said American Idol bedazzled on the front. I also got a David Cook poster and a set of pins. Now we can talk about the concert!
o Chikezie: We thought that he was a good singer and he smiled a lot. My mom did not like it when he got the crowd to say “git ‘er done” over and over, just because he was in Kentucky. She said that he shouldn’t assume we all talk like Larry the Cable Guy!

o Ramiele: She was dressed so pretty. She had on a cute purple tank top and shiny black boots over tight black pants. It was sad when she dedicated a song to her cousin who died yesterday. She actually sang better than we thought she would.
o Michael: We think he should have come in higher than 8th place! It was cool that he sang my favorite song he did on the show, We Will Rock You/We are the Champions! He was so awesome. My mom liked it when he said he was happy to be back in the south. He has a great voice.
o Kristy Lee: You would probably think that Kentucky would be excited about a country girl, but the crowd didn’t seem too excited. She was okay. She leaned over on the rail and sat down a lot. I think she was tired. She did say that she was so excited to be in horse country, and that she met Smarty Jones, the derby winner, yesterday! But, I also loved how she sang God Bless the USA. I think she’s really good at singing that. I thought her sparkly shirt with her gold boots looked hot!
o Carly: Her first song, she came out from under the stage. It looked like her hair was blowing in the wind. Her first song I thought was her personal best. My mom liked Crazy on You the best. I think she was wearing the same boots as Ramiele.
o Brooke: She was going to come up out of the floor playing her piano. When Carly was introducing her, the floor was open, and from where we were sitting, we could see Brooke laying her head down on the piano, so no one could see her. She looked up and waved to the people who could see her. It was cute. She’s really good at playing the piano and guitar. There’s just something in her voice that I love about her. She said that she saw the most beautiful sunset this morning that she’d ever seen. She also said that the idols walked around our mall yesterday.
o Jason: He seemed happy to be there, but nervous and shy. He didn’t talk a lot, but his singing was good. We liked his first song Somewhere Over the Rainbow the best. Some women in front of us must have really liked him because they screamed and screamed!
o Syesha: I did not really like her hair. It was in a Mohawk all puffy on the top. But what I did love about her was her sparkly short dress and her voice of course!
o David A.: Just like Brooke, he entered with his piano from under the stage. There was lots of smoke and different colors. Girls really screamed when he came out. The people next to us were big fans of David A. We thought he was even better in person than on T.V. He seemed nervous when he talked, but it was cute. He never really knows what to say. He said that Kentucky was so pretty, the fences and the green grass. Some people yelled out, “BLUEgrass!!!” I guess he didn’t know that’s what it’s called here. After his songs, he introduced….
o David Cook: The grand finale! Just what we waited for. He is my favorite idol in the world! When he came out he said, “So this is where the Wildcats play?” The place went crazy. He sang 5 songs and all of them were my favorite! Of course his music was awesome and rockin’. He said he was excited to be here because he has family from Gravel Switch, Kentucky! His aunt, and his dad, etc. They were there at the concert. He said his white guitar was a 21st birthday gift from his dad. During “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”, he took a pink cell phone from a girl and sang into her phone for awhile. That was awesome! Now, for the best part of all! During “My Hero”, he was running around the stage like crazy. My mom was holding me up, wearing my hot pink shirt, David Cook pin and waving my poster of him. He came over to the side where we were and climbed up on the bars looking into the audience for awhile. Then he spotted “moi!” He grinned and pointed at me. My mom got it on video! We watched it over a thousand times. I said it never gets old! (Sorry, you have to turn your head sideways to watch!) ha

I am so happy that we went to the concert, especially to see David Cook. I was excited for all of the Idols.
